One does spend a lot of time on eccentrities and vanities...especially when they know that time is not one luxury one cant afford....thats how the human nature describes itself. try to be and achieve more than what your innate nature dictates you to do, and you start seeing why the human race is rightly so highly proclaimed....like someone once said, "You Should Be Your Own Toughest Competitor"
This thought occurred to me yesterday nightwhen my room mates were sleeping, and the insomaniac that I am, i started watching The bucket list(which inturn i've heard about it in yet another movie,Easy A :p). In the opening lines of the movie, Morgan Freeman's voice starts describes how to measure persons(with teaspoons or tapes and scales, i wonder)and more importantly, starts scaling the himalayas! I mean i read the review before borrowing the movie from my friend, and it said he was a cancer patient, and the next thing i see is, BAM! he's on the highest peak on the planet! So naturally I stopped the movie for a while(not totally due to the befuddling details,) and started thinking about he says....
He says"You measure yourself by the people who measure themselves by you. " And then it all started making sense.... You're right. I forgot about it and started watching the movie again :p
You must have rightly guessed my vanity too by now...MOvies...All the glorious hours
effectively reduced to cinders can only be calculated by a Higher power :-D Just to give you a magnitude of the catastrophic standards i'm trying to mention, i'll just give you the film titles that're on the top of my mind...
Where do I start... Ah, there's no country for old men,ong bak, banuelle 13,bourne identity, city of angels, three kings, no mans land, monalisa smile, Up,"Seven Pounds", "Into the Wild", "American Beauty", "Schindler's List", "Hotel Rawanda" "The Hurricane" "Glory" "Shawshank Redemption" "Remember the Titans" " The Blind Side" "Milk".The dark knight, Curious case of Benjamin Button, Blood diamond, we were soldiers, dumb and dumber, the mask, born on the fourth of july, never back down, courage under fire, step up, A few good men, Law abiding citizen, Day and Knight, donnie brasco, the pianist, the lover, innocent steps, PS I love you, the watchmen, sound of music, prince of egypt, once a time in mexico, desparado,a river too far, bridge over river kwaii, Shrek(ALL of them),Prison break(Seasons 1,2,3, and 4 in progress) F.R.I.E.N.D.S.(All seasons of course:D) and the last to go is "The Bucket List"
But seriously though, bench-marking yourself by the standards others set for themselves and expect you to reach them could be tagged under the category "self-depreciation" You are the one who's to set and make standards. As Jack Nicholson retorts when told "I'm proud of you",
"Nobody cares what you think."
:D :D :D
